Which line up should I book to get the best swing & soul band sound?

A minimum of 2 horns is ideal- when there are 2 or more horn instruments they phrase together like a sax or trumpet section in a big band to give those unmistakable brass harmonies. (The videos on the website have been recorded using a 7 and 9 piece band with 3 and 5 horns) The more horns you add, the richer and fuller the sound.

Do you bring your own sound equipment?

Yes. We have an excellent quality P.A. system, suitable for venues up to approximately 250 guests. We also have some stage and dance floor lighting suitable for small venues. Extra PA can be provided to suit larger events.

For events outside mainland UK, we will provide a list of the bands backline requirements.

How long does the band play for and what about music when the band is not playing?

The band plays 2 sets of 50 minutes, or an alternative is 3 x 40 minute sets.
If the event ends at midnight, a DJ isn't generally needed. The band can play music from a laptop or ipod through the PA when the band isn't playing. (or see our Auto DJ option)

I love swing, but will people dance to it?

Most certainly. The great thing about having swing music at an event is that everyone likes it. It creates an upbeat, sophisticated atmosphere and as the evening progresses we can introduce more contemporary party tunes so as cater for all tastes.

What do I need to provide for the band?

1. A level stage/performance area, size depending on the line-up. This doesn't need to be a raised stage, although it helps us to be more visible.
2. At least 4 x 13 amp sockets.
3. A proper hot meal, soft drinks/refreshments while we are at the venue and a room for the band to change & store belongings.

Where is the band based?

The band is based in London, and we travel both in the UK and internationally.

What about insurance and health and safety requirements?

Swing Grooves is insured for public liability, and all PA and electrical equipment is PAT tested and approved for health and safety requirements to comply with venue's requirements.

Some bands quote lower prices. Why do function band prices vary so much?

Paying less doesn't mean a better deal when booking function bands. Many bands pay musicians a low fee, and some bandleaders run bands as a hobby, so it works out cheaper and seems like a bargain.

Although these bands may have some good musicians, they may not be great entertainers and have the key "frontman" (or woman) who can really lead the band's show. So they may sound good on a recording, but might not deliver what you should expect on the day.

There is a big difference between hiring musicians who just turn up and play together and an experienced and professional band that knows what it takes to carry an evenings entertainment.

So apart from being top quality showband, we take care of planning and logistics, have quality equipment, can book replacement musicians in case of illness, understand venue, insurance, and health & safety requirements, and are available to chat through anything on the phone or answer emails so that you can feel confident. And we have a professional bandleader who really cares about getting it right!

Our pricing is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive in the industry, but our quality of live sound, entertainment and service provide unmatched value.

Can I get to see you live at an event?

Occasionally we do a public show, however most performances are at private events, so clients/hosts dont always feel comfortable having others along to see us.

Because we appreciate that you need to be 100% sure that Swing Grooves is the right band for you we have made the full length videos, which are a true representation of the bands live performance.We can also send you a DVD on request.
